On February 27th and 28th, 2021, we visited Sucúa, in Morona Santiago, in the central-southern region of the Ecuadorian Amazon. The purpose of our visit was to present the strategic alliance between CAEMBA and the Interprovincial Federation of Shuar Centers (FICSH), with the aim of replicating our work in the southern Amazon of Ecuador.
This alliance will allow the construction of prefabricated bamboo and certified sustainable wood houses with the aim of reducing deforestation, mitigating climate change, and providing Amazonian families with access to low-cost, high-quality bamboo housing.
This presentation took place within the framework of the Annual Assembly of FICSH. Representing CAEMBA were its President, Manuel Pallares, and Cristina Latorre, project director. Also in attendance were the President of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of the Amazon of Ecuador (CONFENIAE), Marlon Santi, and the President of FICSH, Luis Nawech. Representing the Coordinator of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin (COICA), were Tuntiak Katán and Juan Carlos Jintiach.
We also visited the site where the bamboo treatment plant will be set up for the CAEMBA – Shuar alliance. We thank the hospitality, openness, and interest of the Shuar people in implementing this important strategic alliance that will benefit the Shuar nationality and the Amazon as a whole.
