We delivered an electrification system in Painkenape, Peru

«The Raíz Ecuador – Caemba Foundation » and our “Beyond Lagartococha project” contributed by delivering a comprehensive electrification system for the Siekopai (Secoya) community of Painkenape. The community is located on the banks of the Napo River in the Peruvian Amazon. Nearby is Nuevo Rocafuerte, an Ecuadorian town in the province of Orellana.

On January 21, 2021, we delivered and installed this system, which includes a high-end power generation plant. We had the support of electrical technician Édison Intriago, who traveled from La Concordia, Ecuador, to carry out this task. To provide electricity to the nine houses in Painkenape, a wired network of 600 meters in length was extended. We also installed light bulbs and electrical breakers in each house.

All members of the community collaborated in the construction of the electrification network, as well as in the wooden house where the power plant is located. Painkenape is settled in the Siekopai ancestral territory. This community was built through the management of “The Raíz Ecuador – Caemba Foundation” as part of the Indigenous Territories project.

This community has basic services such as the distribution of drinking water from a well powered by solar panels. Likewise, it has a school, funded by us and now with electricity. In this way, we contribute to improving the quality of life of this Secoya community in the heart of the Amazon.
