On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, the inauguration of the «Beauty in Bamboo» Multifunctional Center took place in the Nueva Esperanza neighborhood, Atacames. Our field technicians, Maritza Orellana and Marjorie Guerrero, welcomed representatives from the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to inaugurate this infrastructure and tour the neighborhood to learn about the work we do at Caemba.
From UNHCR, Giovanni Bassú, Representative of UNHCR; Magda Medina, Deputy Representative of UNHCR; and Danilo Valdiviezo were present. From Caemba, our field technicians Marjorie Guerrero and Maritza Orellana were present.
This multifunctional center was built by Caemba and serves as a beauty and esthetics salon for 13 women to work and obtain sustainable livelihoods. They are part of the group of 20 women who graduated from the esthetics and beauty course a few months ago at the Women’s Entrepreneurship House, administered by Caemba.
This infrastructure was built with bamboo and is a prototype for community centers that provide protection within the framework of community management. This center will help boost the local economy through a beauty salon, which contributes to generating community economic income.
